Introducing a Stronger Voice for Martin County Teachers
Dear Colleagues,
Martin County educators show up every day with passion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to students. That dedication deserves representation that reflects the same level of strength and care.
MCEA does not demonstrate the same level of commitment that we deserve and we have the opportunity to move on to something better.
We are proud to introduce the United Teachers of Martin County (UTMC)—a newly formed organization created with one goal in mind: ensuring that the voices of Martin County educators are heard, respected, and valued.
Because the current union no longer meets the required 60% membership threshold, the Public Employee Relations Commission (PERC) will conduct an election to determine which organization will represent our teachers. This moment marks a rare and meaningful opportunity in our district.
For years, educators have faced delayed contracts, rising insurance costs, and raises that fail to keep pace with increasing financial pressures. More than 200 teachers this year will receive a raise of only $450 — an amount negated by insurance increases negotiated at the table with the current union.
Martin County educators deserve representation that meets the urgency of the challenges we face — representation that listens, responds, and advocates with strength and transparency. United Teachers of Martin County is committed to keeping more resources in our district and focusing them where they belong: on the outstanding professionals who educate and support our students every day.
This is a pivotal moment for all of us. More information about the election process and next steps will be shared soon. Thank you for everything you do for our students, our schools, and our community.
With respect and appreciation,
United Teachers of Martin County
